After the Phone Went Quiet

Nobody writes poems
about what happens next.

The screen goes dark.

The dishes
still need washing.

The babies
still need feeding.

The dog
still wants outside.

Life
never pauses
to ask

whether your heart
is ready
to continue.

So you continue.

Because mothers
have always known
how to survive
while bleeding
where no one
can see.
