What the Bruises Remember

A poetry collection by Chy. J Bennett

Some wounds disappear from the skin long before they leave the body.

What the Bruises Remember is a raw poetry collection about domestic abuse, coercion, fear, motherhood, anger, memory, survival, and the slow reclamation of self.

It is about the body that remembered.
The mother who kept going.
The woman who became hers again.

Some survive.
I wrote about it.

About the Book

What the Bruises Remember does not romanticize survival.

These poems live in the spaces between fear and fury, motherhood and memory, grief and reclamation. They speak to the marks people can see—and the ones the body carries long after the bruises disappear.

This collection is for anyone who has ever had to find themselves again after someone tried to make them smaller.

For anyone who survived.
For anyone still becoming.
