Modern Morality

We no longer burn witches.

We simply call them crazy until they set themselves on fire.

We no longer build gallows.

We build comment sections where strangers take turns deciding who deserves mercy.

Truth is measured in likes.

Kindness is often mistaken for weakness.

Outrage travels faster than understanding.

And somewhere, beneath the noise,

a child still wonders why the adults have forgotten how to be gentle.

Maybe morality was never lost.

Maybe it was buried beneath convenience,

filtered photographs,

performative compassion,

and the desperate need to be right instead of kind.

History will remember the technology.

I wonder

if it will remember our humanity.
