The butterflies
didn’t arrive
during grand declarations.
They arrived
while I was
sprinkling cheese
over tortilla chips
at midnight.
You asked
if I was sleeping.
I said
I was making nachos.
You asked
if I was still naked.
I laughed,
pulled on
an oversized sweater,
and realized
the best conversations
aren’t always
about forever.
Sometimes
they’re about
nachos,
missing curtains,
and the way
someone still wants to know
what you’re doing
long after
most of the world
has gone to bed.
