Two Hearts, One Beginning

Before they knew the shape of words,
Before they learned my name,
Two tiny hearts beat side by side,
Yet never beat the same.

One reached first with curious eyes,
The other smiled with ease.
Two little souls, one miracle,
Arriving on the breeze.

They share the moon, they share the stars,
The laughter in our home.
But each one carries something rare,
A light that’s all her own.

One steals socks and morning kisses,
One dances through the hall.
Together they create a song
That’s sweeter than them all.

Their fingers fit inside my hand,
Their giggles heal my scars.
They stitched together pieces of me
I thought I’d left in dark.

I’ve watched them learn that “please” means hope,
That “up” can change a day,
That tiny voices saying “Mama”
Can chase the storms away.

One calls the other by her name,
In baby words so sweet.
A language only sisters know,
Where two small heartbeats meet.

And someday they will grow apart
Just far enough to fly,
Yet always find the other there
Beneath life’s changing sky.

Because some loves are written deep,
Long before first breath begins.
The world may see two little girls
I see my greatest wins.

Izzy and Gabby, side by side,
My sunrise after rain.
Two hearts that taught this mother
How to bloom through joy and pain.
