Summer came without your laughter.
The bicycles still wait.
Your favourite cups stay in the cupboard.
Your bedrooms hold their breath.
I still glance toward the driveway
Whenever headlights slow.
For one impossible second,
My heart believes you’ll both come home.
I wonder if you’ve grown again.
If your shoes fit differently.
If you’ve learned another joke
I wasn’t there to hear.
Did someone tell you
I never stopped counting the days?
Did someone tell you
I whispered “I love you”
Into every empty room?
The hardest part isn’t silence.
It’s knowing life keeps happening
While I’m forced to watch
From the other side of distance.
So I gather every missing moment
Like seashells in my hands,
Saving them for the day
I get to hear your stories
Instead of imagining them.
