The hardest part
wasn’t the words.
It was realizing
you no longer recognized
the person
sending them.
Somewhere
between anniversaries
and affidavits,
between lullabies
and lawyers,
between hope
and history,
we became
two strangers
arguing
through glass.
You wanted
the last word.
I wanted
the last peaceful night.
Only one of us
got what we were asking for.
