The relationship ended. The soundtrack didn't. Songs survived arguments. Breakups. Blocks. New people. New lives. Years. Somewhere the music kept existing long after we stopped being able to exist together. There are tracks that still know who we were before I learned to fear you. Songs that remember your softer hands. Songs that still believe in tomorrow. Songs that think we are going to grow old. Songs that have no idea about the window. About the knives. About strangers seeing pieces of me they were never invited to see. The music is innocent. That might be why it hurts. Every song is trapped in the moment you chose it. It cannot learn what happened next. So somewhere inside three minutes and forty seconds, we are still in love. Still choosing each other. Still convinced the ending belongs to somebody else. Our relationship had a soundtrack longer than the relationship. And tonight I listened to the ghosts sing.
